“I do outreach work for Caritas. I refer cases to them. I also teach refugee kids at Kayany school, in grades 3, 4 and 5. The age range is broad in the classrooms. In classes for Syrian children here in Lebanon, you find 11 year-olds studying with 17 year-olds. As a consequence, the drop-out rates are high, especially among the older pupils. So who's going to rebuild Syria if our new generations are illiterate and uneducated? My message to Syrian parents is: encourage your children to study, support them as much as you can. And beware of early marriage. Don't let your children get married too early.” Bassam, 29 years old, from Aleppo, Syria; Masters student in Arabic Literature at Lebanese University.
